Travel News 08 Jun 2016

Hong Kong's airport authority has announced that a new passenger fee will be introduced this summer, to fund the ongoing expansion of HKIA including the development of its third runway. The new Airport Construction Fee (ACF) will be applied to all outbound air tickets issued on or after 1 August 2016 and will vary depending on the route and cabin class.

The ACF for short-haul departing passengers flying in economy class is HK$90, while the fee for short-haul passengers in first/business class is HK$160. For long-haul passengers, the fee for economy and first/business class tickets are HK$160 and HK$180 respectively. The ACF for short-haul transit/transfer passengers in economy class is HK$70. It is expected that about 70% of passengers departing from HKIA will pay an ACF of HK$90 or less.

The ACF will remain in place until further notice.
